Donation Guide - Accepted Items

Volunteers of America accepts donations of items that are in usable condition. Donated items are offered for sale at a reasonable value at Volunteers of America’s Retail Centers or given to those in need. Proceeds from the sales of donated items help support many of the human services programs run by Volunteers of America.

The following is provided as a guide to help you as you prepare items to donate to Volunteers of America. If you are uncertain whether Volunteers of America will accept your item please call us at (585) 647-1150.

Acceptable Items:

  • Antiques/Collectibles
  • Bikes (Must have tires, pedals and seat)
  • Books, magazines, text books or encyclopedias (no mildew or water damage)
  • Clothing
  • Computer Equipment--flat screen monitors only
  • Furniture (free of stains, tears and pet damage)
  • Housewares (dishes, small kitchen appliances)
  • Jewelry
  • Large appliances--PICK UP ONLY-Must be in working condition
  • Lawn mowers, snow blowers (working condition and drained of any fluids)
  • Medical equipment (i.e. canes, walkers, clean commodes, shower chairs)
  • Metal salvage (easily bound together and moveable by one person)
  • Shows
  • Soft luggage
  • Sporting Goods
  • Televisions (Cable-Ready/working condition, no consoles)
  • Toys/games (new/unopened, or older than 1970)
  • Sporting Goods

Donations can be dropped off at any Volunteers of America store or you can call (585) 647-1150 to schedule a free donation pick-up.
