A lifetime love of reading begins with a single book, but not all parents have easy access to engaging, age-appropriate materials for children. 

Studies show that the most significant factor influencing a child’s early educational success is an introduction to books and being read to at home prior to beginning school.

For low-income and impoverished families with limited financial resources, ensuring children have access to books at home can often come second to ensuring the rent has been paid and that there is enough food on the table.

Good news! Volunteers of America has partnered with Scholastic Inc. to provide children our areas most vulnerable children free books featuring some of their favorite characters, from Clifford and Arthur to Sponge Bob and Magic Tree House. 

Volunteers of America distributes Scholastic books to families who participate in its programs and have been impacted by poverty or homelessness.
